Wii=Whee!

Okay, I have never been a video game fanatic.

Although I did own an Atari back in the day. And yes, I played Pong.

QuBert and Frogger were my favorites, though. I can still hear the sound of that little frog meeting his Maker when the cars ran him over.

Splat.

But I never owned a Nintendo or a Playstation, and quite honestly, I never cared to.

No one judge me, please…but I thought of it kind of like a sub-culture. I likened it to people who went to midnight premieres of Star Wars or Harry Potter movies.

And hey…..truth be told, I have dear friends that do this…but it’s just not “my thing”.

Now, I am sure that there are things that I do that the “gamers” (is that what you call people who love video games?) would say is not their “thing”.

I bet none of them obsess over coupons and the organization system of it all.

And I would venture to guess that there aren’t too many people that would find watching reruns of the Facts of Life entertaining, but hey…I like it.

Besides, who doesn’t love Mrs. Garrett? Come on…that woman could serve you warm cookies and milk while solving every imaginable problem a young teenage girl might have. And she could do it 30 minutes….22 without commercials. She’s got skills.

Anyway, the Wii.

So, my friends Terri and Shannon took me out to celebrate my 33rd  birthday last night. (My birthday is actually Wednesday, so until then…I am still 32, alright?)

And after dinner, we came back here so that I could be introduced to Wii.

I was skeptical, but I said nothing to reflect that. One must keep quiet about one’s skepticism of the Wii.

But, once we had hooked up the device and the games began….

I was hooked.

We started with Dance Dance Revolution. Not so great at that. But man, was it fun!

This is a pregnant lady dancing in her maternity dress. Stop laughing…I was really concentrating. I don’t normally look like that. Unless, I’m playing Scrabble.

Then, we did boxing.

Wow. First, I have never seen Terri move like that. It was like she lost all sense of control over her arms. They were just flailing around, independent of her body, and they looked as though they were void of bones. Just long noodles waving around wildly.

I was a little more…violent…

I can’t even show you those pictures…

And Stephen, well…he looks like he’s just going to talk the guy into giving up the fight. Doesn’t he look so nice? Like he’s asking the guy out for coffee while he’s punching him in the face?

We also did bowling, tennis, and baseball.

Baseball was my least favorite.

Have I ever mentioned I was always one of the last kids picked for sports teams in school?

But I LOVED the fact that the little baseball players looked like the old Little People wooden toys we use to play with as kids. You know, the ones that were wooden, painted in primary colors and had no arms or legs?

Oh, I giggled repeatedly, and loudly, to watch those little people bop all over the field, catching the balls with hands that appeared out of nowhere.

So, all in all, Stephen and I are now fascinated with the Wii.

Is it wrong to try and convince ourselves that to purchase one could be seen as an educational investment for the girls?

I’m with you annette, I’ve never been much of a video game person either (except duck hunt…that was great), but I love the Wii! My family had our first go at it in Miami in January and we have toyed around with getting one since then, my dad finally broke down and ordered one last week (he says its a gift for the new grandchild =)). Anyway, you and Stephen will have to come over sometime and play!

You have to try the Wii Fit. Exercise and video games together - my kind of fun!!!!

Happy Late Birthday! I am glad you liked it. It is different than anything that we had as kids yet very fun and easy to use. Now you just have to buy one.
