CVS…Changing My Way of Life

I’m a bit of a pack rat.

My husband is probably shaking his head as he reads this right now, thinking that is the biggest understatement he’s heard in awhile. But truth be told, he is too.

I’m not sure why we keep so much stuff. We even say, every so often, “We really should get rid of some of this junk.” And we get motivated to move it out of house. We bag and box things up and vow to get rid of it.

Then we sit in the garage.

But I have started shopping at CVS….and things are going to change around here.

Now, I’ve always been a bit of what I call a “couponer”. I’m always looking for ways to save a buck. But recently, I’ve taken it to a whole new level.

Apparently there’s a sub-culture of people out there who have taken on shopping at CVS and are walking out of there paying pennies for bags of stuff.

And I’m now one of them.

I’d love to share my secrets with you, but I’ll spare those that don’t care the details. But I will tell you that it is all perfectly legal…and the cashier I had today even helped me figure out how to get my total even lower. :)

I’ll give you an example of some of my hauls though. One time I walked out with a giant bag of baby wipes, Stephen’s allergy meds of the week (I think it was Alavert), 3 bottles of shampoo, 1 bottle of conditioner, and a roll of lifesavers that McKenna had opened (unbeknownst to me) for a total of $.18! Yes, that said 18 CENTS. AND, even better, they gave me Extra Bucks valuing $8.00 to spend next time.

My goal now is to walk out of there every time for less than $1.00.

But sometimes, I mess up my order.

Like today…I had my scenario all planned out. But they were out of two of the items that I needed. SO, I had to try and rework my plan. That’s a hard task when you’ve got a toddler obsessed with the 581 shades of nail polish she sees and a baby who is REALLY READY for her nap.

So I ended up spending $16 and some change. Granted, for all I got (4 bottles of Garnier face wash, 1 Maybelline lipstick, 1 eye shadow, 1 bottle of body wash, 1 large bottle of shampoo, and 2 bags of jelly beans) it’s still a pretty good deal. Plus they gave me $20.00 in Extra Bucks for next time.

But hey! When you’re used to handing over pocket change to pay, $16 can hit you pretty hard.

All of that to say, I have to clean out my closets now to find a place to put all my stash. I’m running out of room.

I’ve been so motivated to get rid of all the junk we don’t use around here that I….

….cleaned out my car tonight.

I can hear the collective gasp going up among all of my friends right now. My husband is probably going to be in tears when he finds this out…he hates my car.

I won’t tell you what all I found in there, but it was really interesting…to say the least.

I like to think that I keep my house pretty decent. Well, at least the parts that people see anyway.

But you could call me Fred Sanford when it comes to the “hidden” places…like my closets, junk drawers, and the car.

So, all of that to say…thank you, CVS. You’re changing my lifestyle.

Maybe someday I’ll write about the deals that I’m getting at Publix, too.
